Q. Do you have to repay these loans immediately or are they deferred?

A. There are three repayment options for you to select from:

  • Immediate repayment of principal and interest; or

  • Interest only payments while in school; or

  • Deferment of principal and interest payments for 6 months until the student ceases to be enrolled at least half-time in an eligible school.

Q. When does repayment begin?

A. Repayment of principal and interest on each loan will begin six months after the student ceases to be enrolled at least half-time. The six-month period between the in-school and repayment period is called a grace period. If the immediate repayment of principal and interest is selected there is no grace period available.

Q. How is the dollar amount of the loan determined?

A. The student provides the information during the initial application process. The school will certify the loan amount based on the individual needs to determine the cost of education (tuition, fees, books, room & board, etc.).

Q. What is the origination fee?

A. There is no origination fee associated with WESTconsin Credit Union’s private student loan.

Q. Are the rates offered a fixed or variable rate?

 A. Rates can change quarterly and are based off the prime rate.

Q. Can WESTconsin Credit Union’s private student loan program be used to pay for the past semester?

A. No, the student loan cannot be used for past semesters. The student loan is current semester and future semesters.

Q. Who do I contact if I have questions?

A. Contact your local WESTconsin Credit Union office.

Q. Where do I mail my payments?

A. Payments are mailed to: University Accounting Service, P.O. Box 6491, Carol Stream, IL 60197

Q. Will I receive a payment book or monthly statement to make my payment?

A. Yes, you will receive a monthly statement from University Accounting Service (UAS), who is the servicer of your student loan. Payments can also be made online at: https://loanservice.uasecho.com.

Q. What is the minimum payment amount?

A. The minimum repayment amount is $50.00, but may be more depending on the loan amount.

Q. Is there a grace period?

A. You have 10-days after the due date to make your payment before a late charge is assessed.

Q. Can I view my student loan information and payment history online?

A. Yes, loan information can be accessed online at: https://loanservice.uasecho.com.

Q. Do I need to complete that FASFA before applying for WESTconsin Credit Union’s private student loan?

A. Completing the FASFA is highly recommended. Private student loans are available to help fulfill the gap between your tuition bill and the federal loans, grants, and scholarships you received.

Q. Can payments be set up on automatic payment?

A. Yes, automatic payments can be set up and managed online at: https://loanservice.uasecho.com.
